An evocative social commentary as it is as an ingenious work of fiction

Author William Bopf returns to the world of fiction with his newest thriller, "Crime in Paradise" (published by Xlibris). Painting a caricature of the grimy and chaotic underworld of money and power, he explores what happens to a society left to the devices of dishonest, deceiving and morally inept people.

"Crime in Paradise" follows Tom Wall, former sheriff of Napa County who has just been elected as a state senator, and his wife, Carol Simmons Wall, the newly-elected sheriff of nearby Solano County. They are living in paradise physically and mentally on a 28 -acre ranch in the Stag’s Leap region of Napa County. Things seem to go well for the couple until the evil interests of some mysterious forces are turned to them. These forces arise, threatening their careers, fortune and their lives. Their plan is to dominate the billion-dollar wine-making industry of the region. At first they start out slowly, but increase their unyielding influence, stopping at nothing to satisfy the insatiable hunger of their greed. Will Tom and Carol quell the force that is seemingly beyond them to overcome?

Against the backdrop of the popular wine-making industry of Northern California, a riveting story unfolds, revealing a raw and candid look at how the complex imbroglio between politics, economic interest and moral decisions come into being, and the working motives that fuel this unsightly display of human frailties that perpetuate a culture of greed, injustice and inequity.

"The story deals with real-life experiences that people can recognize in today's evolving diverse society," says Bopf. "We generally seek for equality of all persons but sometimes the majority of society fights against that cause. At this time, we find that we must resist these obstacles progress."

An evocative social commentary as it is as an ingenious work of fiction, "Crime in Paradise" illustrates that criminal activity can succeed at all levels unless good and honest people remain committed and vigilant in their fight for a fair and livable society.
