Crowley, Port Everglades Association Work Together to Bring Aid to Area’s Homeless People
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (PRWEB) July 23, 2019 -- Crowley Maritime Corp. recently partnered with the Port Everglades Association (PEA), the Seafarers International Union (SIU), Port Everglades Port Authority and the Broward Business Council on Homelessness to help provide furniture and other household furnishings to support the homeless population in Broward County.
Pier Sixty-Six Hotel and Marina in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., donated furniture bureaus, desks, chairs, lamps, bed sheeting and other goods. The furnishings were then securely stored in two of Crowley’s ocean shipping containers and held on the company’s Port Everglades terminal prior to distribution in-kind.
In addition to the Broward Business Council on Homelessness, the donated items will be offered to other non-profit agencies that aid the region’s homeless community. These other agencies include the Broward Partnership for the Homeless, Lifenet4Families, the Homeless Education Assistance Resource Team (H.E.A.R.T.) of the Broward County School Board, Hope South Florida and the Salvation Army.
“Crowley is committed to being stewards in the places where we work and live. We were proud to come together with our partners to support the transition of people into stable housing in the South Florida community,” said Crowley’s Patrick Collins, vice president of marine and terminal operations, and vice president of PEA.
Thirty-five volunteer workers from PEA, South Florida Petroleum and Ranger Construction, and the SIU helped load the donated goods into the Crowley containers.
“Working alongside PEA VP Patrick Collins with Crowley, and PEA board member Kris Hopkins with Seafarers International Union, we were humbled to see the outpouring of support from our 30-plus volunteers who mobilized in full force to help our community’s homeless people,” said PEA President Richard Vogel. “It is gratifying to see the genuine commitment of PEA member companies like Crowley, Vecenergy and Ranger Construction that do so much to help so many people.”
