“Through CURE® magazine...we will partner with The Julie Fund to help them publicize their activities and reach out to women everywhere,” said Mike Hennessy Jr., president of Intellisphere Oncology and Healthcare Specialty Group, MJH.
PLAINSBORO, N.J. (PRWEB) October 28, 2015
CURE Media Group, the nation’s leading digital and print media enterprise focused on cancer patients, today welcomes The Julie Fund for Women’s Cancers to the CURE Advocacy Spotlight Partnership program.
“The Julie Fund has impacted thousands of lives through its support for leading-edge research, social services and educational programs,” said Mike Hennessy Jr., president of Intellisphere Oncology and Healthcare Specialty Group, part of the Plainsboro, N.J.-based Michael J. Hennessy Associates, Inc., family of businesses. “Through CURE® magazine, the largest consumer publication in the U.S. focused entirely on cancer, and our other communications services, we will partner with The Julie Fund to help them publicize their activities and reach out to women everywhere.” For the latest content on The Julie Fund and to receive additional information, stories and advice along your cancer journey, visit http://www.curetoday.com and subscribe to receive updates.
“When Julie was diagnosed with ovarian cancer at age 40 and with three small children, her idea was to create an organization that would advocate on behalf of women with cancer and provide them with the support and information they need,” said Peter McAvinn, president of The Julie Fund. “Unfortunately, Julie lost her battle with cancer. But through her legacy—The Julie Fund—we have the opportunity to help so many others.”
The Julie Fund for Women’s Cancers was established by Julie’s family and friends in partnership with the Massachusetts General Hospital and Partners HealthCare, a system of leading academic medical centers and community hospitals in Massachusetts. The Julie Fund is now the single largest contributor to ovarian cancer research at Massachusetts General.
The Julie Fund impacts women with cancer in three significant ways: research, patient and family support and education. Half of the money the Fund raises goes to research. Among the research projects the Fund supports is the development of blood markers to detect ovarian cancer at its earliest stages. The Fund also supports a project to create a gene test to predict which patients are at risk for cancer recurrence after treatment, thus potentially sparing thousands of women the ordeal of continuing chemotherapy. In addition, the Fund continues to support a project to determine the molecular basis for platinum-resistant ovarian cancer, the most deadly form of ovarian cancer.
The Julie Fund has made a significant difference in the lives of thousands of patients, families and caregivers by funding nonmedical expenses incurred by families of cancer patients. These include transportation, food, day care, temporary housing and other exceptional expenses that patients and families face as a result of their cancer treatments. The Fund also provides support for educational programs for healthcare professionals and the general public in order to raise awareness of the symptoms of and treatments for women’s cancers.
“We at The Julie Fund are delighted to partner with CURE Media Group to share information and provide patients and their families the information they need,” said McAvinn.
