Curiate Chosen by Alibaba as Only Canadian Company in Competition
Vancouver, BC, Canada (PRWEB) November 03, 2016 -- Curiate is pleased to announce it has been selected for the Create@Alibaba Cloud Startup Competition (CACSC). The CACSC is a global contest organized by Alibaba Cloud and is the largest startup event the Alibaba Group has ever hosted. Regional contests were held in the US, UK, France, Hong Kong, Singapore, United Arab Emirates, South Korea, and in major provinces throughout China.
“We’re honoured to represent Canada in the competition. Being selected by one of the 10 largest companies in the world is strong validation that we’re solving a valuable problem in a valuable market,” said Jennifer Chen, CEO and founder of Curiate.
She added, “The problem of limited visibility into TV audiences exists internationally. In the US, media providers like Netflix would love to better understand what viewers find most interesting while watching Narcos, for example. This helps Neflix make better recommendations to viewers, and make better content investment decisions. Wasu Media has the same problem in China, Gyao has the same problem in Japan – and they’re both interested in our platform”.
Based on a recent report from Boston Consulting Group, Netflix is projected to spend $6 billion on content in 2017, and NBC, CBS, and Amazon will spend $4.3 billion, $4 billion, and $3.2 billion, respectively. The ability to help the industry make better content acquisition and production decisions is extremely valuable because it increases stickiness and viewer retention.
“Media providers and content creators want to know what motivates their audiences – everyone watches TV so it’s a global opportunity. We feel that Curiate can help solve this problem internationally, which is why we selected them for the Create@Alibaba Cloud Startup Competition. As well, Curiate’s platform is cloud-based, which is a great fit for Aliyun, our cloud computing service,” said Kay Wei, senior cloud architect at Alibaba Group.
The North American competition will be held in Silicon Valley – if successful, Curiate will advance to the world final which will be held during the annual Alibaba Cloud Conference in Hangzhou, China.
