Brain Education is Part of Santa Fe Volunteer’s Story of Commitment to Service in New Series on Dahn Yoga Foundation Website
Mesa, Arizona (PRWEB) October 16, 2013 -- The new Dahn Yoga Foundation website series Doing Good Through Yoga takes a closer look at one of the stories in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Diane Catron is a former school teacher who is using her retirement time for greater service; she is helping many people by teaching Brain Education in her community.
What is Brain Education? A system of mind and body training that recognizes the importance of the brain, based on an integration of Eastern Tradition and techniques informed by scientific research on the brain. Dahn Yoga is just one method developed under this system.
According to Ilchi Lee, the creator of Brain Education and Dahn Yoga, “The brain is not something for only scientists or experts to understand and discuss. Each human being has the ability and authority to understand and manage their brain.”
Catron offers classes especially developed for seniors, known as Brain Education for Successful Aging. The classes are held at the Santa Fe Dahn Yoga center but are open to individuals in the community to drop in at a substantially reduced rate. She says “My 3 goals for them is to strengthen their core muscles, improve their balance--something you worry about when getting older--and teaching them how to focus their minds.” She has also taught these useful skills in a Brain Education program for the Boys & Girls Club in Santa Fe, using the special methods developed for teaching for children. She helped those young people develop skills that not only made their summer fun, but that they could use during the school year.
Beginning with a foundation of physical well-being, Brain Education enables individuals to transform their stress response. Research has shown that this combination of practices result in improved focus and improved memory power.
About the Dahn Yoga Foundation:
For more than 15 years, community-based Dahn Yoga classes have been made available free of charge or at substantially reduced rates in the US. The Dahn Yoga Foundation, a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charity, was founded in 2006 to organize and expand the scope of these outreach classes. The Foundation supports community yoga and meditation classes which are offered at various locations around the country, including public parks, senior centers, schools, churches and community centers. In addition to yoga and meditation classes, Dahn Yoga Foundation supports community service projects, helping practitioners breathe new life into Dahn Yoga ideals by putting them into practice.
