America’s partner in home improvement, Home Expert Danny Lipford, launched a Satellite Media Event yesterday to help homeowners get ready for the changing seasons. The September 1, 2015 Event, titled “Don’t Fall Behind”, offered consumers strategic advice on taking steps now to prepare their homes for the cooler fall temperatures and extreme winter weather ahead.

With 36 years of remodeling and home improvement experience, Danny understands the importance of seasonal maintenance in keeping a residence in top shape. “Avoiding regular maintenance on your home can lead to disaster, and often a hefty price tag,” says Danny. “I always advise homeowners who may feel overwhelmed to break it down into manageable tasks they can tackle a bit at a time. Taking the time to seal a window or have your heating system serviced will pay off in the cooler months with energy savings and a toasty inside to keep your family comfortable.”

During the “Don’t Fall Behind” Media Event, Danny discussed three key areas that homeowners should address in advance of changing temperatures including energy efficiency, power supply and heating system safety and comfort.

Sealing the envelope of the home has become one of the most important tasks for homeowners in terms of energy efficiency. Danny pointed to several steps people can take to keep the warm air in and the cold air out with the change of seasons:

  •     Sealing drafty or single-pane windows with a DIY insulating roll on kit
  •     Making doors airtight with weather stripping and draft seals
  •     Having a professional check for leaks in ductwork, and service the heating system

In addition to energy efficiency, Danny pointed out the many benefits of having a portable generator on hand moving into the fall season. Not only convenient for tailgating and running outdoor electrical appliances, a portable generator can serve to power up devices such as televisions and radios, charge cell phones, or even run a space heater in the event of a power outage.

The Satellite Media Event reached 15 million people and included national sponsors Carrier, Duck Brand and Generac.
