Industry Veterans David Adelman (Media) and Nader Ashway (Creative) Join With Direct Marketing Leader Mark Kolier to Form New Integrated Data Driven Agency Model

After several years of strategic collaboration, David Adelman, Nader Ashway and Mark Kolier today announced the introduction of moddern marketing services, LLC, an integrated marketing services agency based in New York City. The three executives and partners in the company had been developing its model and philosophy for two years leading to today’s official introduction . The agency offers strategic consulting, creative services, digital and social media marketing, direct marketing services, and a full range of strategic media planning and buying services.

We really wanted to smash the old model of the ad agency, where media and creative and even strategic decisions were all made by different people on different floors of the building. There are no silos here…so our clients are getting strong thinking from smart people from every angle.”

moddern marketing began as a strategic partnership between the agencies the three partners individually owned and operated . David Adelman ran OCD Media in New York, and had collaborated on several projects with Mark Kolier, who owned and ran CGSM, a direct marketing firm based in Wilton, Connecticut. Kolier had also collaborated closely with Nader Ashway, who ran Ashway Group, a boutique creative and branding shop based in Hoboken, New Jersey. Kolier saw the potential of the three agencies working together under one roof, and in 2012, the three teams were merged in a Soho location as a test run.

“We had success working as three separate agencies, and I saw an opportunity to become one very unique kind of new agency,” says Mark Kolier, Principal and Managing Director. After a few months of working out the details and transitioning some business, the LLC was formed and the agency immediately began to take shape.

In 2013, moddern became agency of record for Jackson Hewitt and for Oris Watches. In addition to AOR assignments, moddern is also media agency of record for Tata Global Beverages, handling their Eight O’Clock Coffee and Tetley Tea brands, as well as MCU, (Municipal Credit Union) one of New York’s largest credit unions. moddern also has creative, digital, social and branding assignments for REBOOT, Aqua Vault and Globe Equipment.

David Adelman, Principal, Media Director

David Adelman has been focused on helping marketers get superior results from their advertising investments for almost 30 years. Prior to co-founding moddern marketing, David ran OCD Media, an independent media services agency, where he pioneered advanced modeling techniques to improve communications.

Earlier in his career, David held key media management positions at several major advertising agency and media service organizations, including Initiative Media, DMB&B/MediaVest, McCann-Erickson, TN Media, Saatchi & Saatchi and Rosenfeld Sirowitz & Humphrey. His five years on the client side at Schering-Plough gave him a broader perspective on the consumer marketing process.

A short list of previous clients include P&G, Johnson & Johnson, Campbell’s Soup, Tyson Foods, Victoria’s Secret, LG Electronics, Qwest Communications, BIC, PriceWaterhouse Coopers, Bayer, Sara Lee, Fidelity Investments and others.

David is a frequent guest lecturer on Marketing, Consumer Behavior and Organizational Management at a number of NYC universities. His thought pieces are frequently published in key industry trade journals and he has appeared on numerous industry panels and conferences as moderator or keynote speaker. Nader Ashway, Principal, Creative Director

Prior to founding moddern, Nader Ashway ran Ashway Group, a boutique branding and marketing agency focused on small to midsize businesses and startups.

With more than two decades’ experience under his belt, Nader has developed award-winning strategy and creative programs for brands large and small including Advertising Age, American Express, BMW, Citibank, Samsung, UNICEF, WIRED and many others.

In addition to his creative responsibilities, Nader is currently a board member and former president of the Business Marketing Association of New York CIty. He has served as a creative judge for numerous awards shows, including BMA’s ACE Awards, ABM’s CEBA Awards, DMA ECHO Awards and AAF’s Addy awards on the local, regional and national levels.

Nader has written on advertising and creativity for The Gramercy Institute’s Journal of Financial Advertising & Marketing, is a contributing advertising blogger at and maintains his own marketing education blog at

Nader is also a graduate professor of Integrated Marketing Communications at New York University.

Mark Kolier, Principal, Managing Director

Mark Kolier is a marketing executive with more than 25 years of experience in the direct marketing vertical. He has worked with brands large and small, including, most notably, helping to grow Tempur-Pedic into one of the world’s largest and most successful direct-marketed brands. Other brands include American Express, Citrix, Doubleday, Huntington Learning Center and Rosetta Stone.

Through Mark’s extensive business network in Asia, and his growing command of Mandarin, moddern is also working to assist Chinese companies with their expansion overseas, particularly into US markets. moddern helps these Chinese companies to understand the subtleties of the US marketplace, and to adapt to a new business environment and culture.
