When a comet collides with the moon, its disintegration triggers a mini ice age and the release of an airborne pathogen via ice crystals, which drastically reduces the earth’s population as people breathe the tainted air. The struggle for survival is narrated by a former Vietnam veteran, who helps shape law and order, the embryonic new civilization and the search for his lost pilot son in author Dennis Michael Whelan’s new novel, “A Thief in the Night” (published by Balboa Press AU).
“Everything in this book has been carefully researched and all the scenarios shown and expressed from actual comets and their composition, to sniping, aviation, weaponry, global temperatures and weather possibilities are real. Action scenes are all plausible,” Whelan explains. “The book has always been in my head and just needed to be written down. It also of course required considerable research.
An excerpt from “A Thief in the Night”:
So that was it, all the hype and angst and worry of the last few months reduced to a stain on the surface of the moon and enough information to probably spawn a generation of films and books and the scientists a good deal of information but for the people of the world, within a couple of weeks, an interesting event but little more, but I was left with a sense of unease. There was something about that stain on the moon easily observed through any telescope that had a primeval feel and would probably stay for as long as the moon existed.
