Dominion Enterprises’ 7th Hackathon Event Encourages Innovation and Collaboration Among Local Universities in Hampton Roads
Norfolk, VA (PRWEB) February 05, 2014 -- Dominion Enterprises, a leading marketing company, will host its 7th Hackathon on February 6 and 7, 2014 at their headquarters in Norfolk. This challenging event is designed for teams of local students to gain real world software development experience by collaborating and designing functional games and apps.
Sponsored by Dominion Enterprises, Hackathon is a regular event where teams of skilled students from local Colleges and Universities compete against each other for top prizes. Teams this year will be designing and programming working games, or game-themed apps by utilizing nationally recognized API’s as well as some used by Dominion Enterprises itself. The teams will be mentored and coached by professional developers, designers, analyzers, and project managers employed by Dominion Enterprises.

Over the course of two days, teams composed of students from Old Dominion University, Virginia Commonwealth University, The College of William & Mary, The University of Mary Washington, Tidewater Community College, ECPI University, Christopher Newport University, and Norfolk State University, will brainstorm, build, and present their finished products to a panel of judges. Prizes will be given in the following four categories for exceptional work: Most Innovative, Most Creative/Entertaining, Best use of the Appcelerator Mobile Application Development Platform, and Best in Show.
The idea behind Hackathon is to promote collaboration and innovation. Teams with various skill sets and different areas of study will be cooperating to develop modern games and apps. Dominion Enterprises and Hackathon veterans encourage diversity in skill sets. This may include students who not only excel in development, such as Computer Science and IT majors, but marketers, graphic designers, and entrepreneurs as well. The diversity of the teams will also introduce different perspectives, encouraging innovation. This team-based effort will simulate the experience they will receive working in a professional environment.
