Donald Clark's Newly Released "My Friend You" Is an Absorbing True Story of a Marine Corpsman Who Unexpectedly Bonds with Two Orphans During the Vietnam War
"My Friend You" from Christian Faith Publishing author Donald Clark and Carla Clark is a generous, heartfelt memoir that tells the true story of a young African-American's four-year tour of duty during the Vietnam War era, during which he is dispatched as a volunteer crewman aboard a marine medevac helicopter to rescue a group of children--among them a ten-year-old orphan girl Kim and her protective teenage brother Lanh, who not only befriend the author but touch his heart, leaving him promising to write their story one day.
MEADVILLE, Pa., Nov. 13, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- "My Friend You": a heartwarming true story about war and love. "My Friend You" is the creation of published author Donald Clark, a married father of two and former Marine from Kansas whose work history includes Hallmark Cards, Avery International, Whitestone International, and teaching middle school math.
Clark shares, "Little Kim whispered in Lanh's ear and Lanh told me his sister wants to know my name. I paused a moment and leaned down and softly told Kim my name was My Friend You. As soon as I said those three words, her eyes lit up, and she broke out with the cutest little giggle. Then she repeated the words My Friend You over and over again.
She struggled a little when saying the three words at first, but the more she said them, the easier it became for her. Apparently, these three words were the only English words she could pronounce. But each time she said, 'My Friend You,' her pretty little eyes would light up, and she would break out into joyous childish laughter.
It was simply a beautiful sight to see her and to hear her say, 'My Friend You.'
Lanh said that in his language names of people meant something, and so he asked me the meaning of the words My Friend You, so he could explain them to his little sister. I thought for a moment, and for the life of me, I didn't know why I told Kim my name was "My Friend You". Then I told Lanh the meaning of my name: I simply said those 3 words meant "that a big bad, Marine would suddenly appear, and rescue Kim from any harm or danger, and that the louder she said, "My Friend You" the quicker the Marine would appear."
Published by Christian Faith Publishing, Donald Clark's new book is a tender narrative that goes beyond telling the story of the war to highlights the human heart within it.
Clark brings the Vietnam war era back to vivid life, and with it, the two unforgettable children who will send him home a changed man.
