Doreen Hayward Writes Haunting New Novel, ‘Portrait in Stone’
Aylesbury, England (PRWEB) June 27, 2014 -- A haunted house and a cursed pendant cause a wicked series of events in author Doreen Hayward’s spooky new novel, “Portrait in Stone” (published by AuthorHouse).
In a tiny village in Buckinghamshire, England, Charlotte Woods looks to rebuild a destroyed house. A local, Adam, tells her about the house’s mysterious, haunted past. She dismisses these stories as old wives’ tales. Charlotte and Adam begin to spend more time together and eventually, fall in love.
In an old junk shop, Charlotte finds a curious-looking stone pendant with a figure painted on it. Adam tells her the local legend of the pendant, which was supposedly cursed by a witch. Charlotte purchases the pendant anyway. Then Charlotte begins having nightmares. Nightly, she dreams she is the subject of a witch hunt at the hands of Oliver Cromwell’s men. Disturbed by these dreams, Charlotte begins unfolding the truth of her existence – an existence more than 300 years in the making.
An excerpt from “Portrait in Stone”:
“In one of the boxes filled with bric-a-brac, she found what appeared to be some kind of locket or pendant. It seemed interesting, so she took it to the rosy woman at the counter and bought it for fifty pence, which the lady put in the charity box. ‘I believe that is supposed to be a lucky charm,’ the woman told her. ‘It needs a good clean up. It’s quite grubby.’”
