“Hugo, the Loveable, Huggable Orangutan” illustrates an important message in empathy and unconditional love.

A friendly orangutan escapes the zoo and goes to school with a young boy in Doris McKenzie’s debut children’s book, “Hugo, the Loveable, Huggable Orangutan” (published by LifeRich Publishing).

Everyone in the zoo loves Hugo the orangutan. He’s always ready to listen to the problems of Mr. Miller the zookeeper and the animals, and he always gives everyone a hug. When a little boy named Tommy gives Hugo a peanut butter sandwich, Hugo decides he wants more and follows Tommy home.

Shocked and elated with his new friend, Tommy takes Hugo to school with him where Hugo quickly becomes the most popular ape on the playground. When Tommy and the other children are feeling sad or scared, Hugo always knows just what to do to make them feel better.

Packed with original drawings, “Hugo, the Loveable, Huggable Orangutan” illustrates an important message in empathy and unconditional love. McKenzie hopes to not only entertain her readers, but also pass on a warm feeling of love.

An excerpt from “Hugo, the Loveable, Huggable Orangutan”:

“In a small town at the city zoo there lived an orangutan named Hugo. In case you were wondering, an orangutan is a very large monkey with very long arms. Hugo was a very loveable orangutan. What made him so loveable, you might ask? He was huggable, too.”
