...our marketing plan and ideals proved to be sound.
Denver, CO (PRWEB) February 03, 2015
Even as a home salon, Do the Bang Thing Salon was run like a Fortune-500 company... and it was great. Unfortunately, the success was overwhelming. To put it bluntly, considerations for replacing the front door with a revolving door to save on heating could have been made. For 8-hours a day, 5 days a week, people exiting passed people entering. It became silly.
It was time to move the salon out of the house. A studio suite was decided upon, similar to an office building for hair and spa services. On the plus side, the revolving door of clients entering and exiting the home ceased, and the home became a home again. On the down side, the new location was hard to find and there was competition with 10+ other salons working from the same address. Marketing strategies at the new location were about to be tested with fire and brimstone.
Hair Salon Marketing at its Finest
Despite having been "thrown to the wolves" in terms of competition, the marketing plan and ideals proved to be sound. Unfortunately, (fortunately for Do the Bang Thing), despite the trendiness of some of the local competitors, their marketing efforts were "old school." Surprisingly, the competitors spent their days waiting for walk-in appointments and ultimately had a lot of downtime.
Conversely, the new salon was slammed. The salon repeatedly double-booked appointments and even had to get a larger studio space to accommodate the business. A sub-booth renter was required to help maintain the flow of business.
Booking appointments via the telephone became cumbersome and time consuming. An online booking system was emplaced that allowed stylists to put the phone down and reserve appointments online 24/7. This made business much more efficient and helped to provide a level of convenience to clients. Not to mention the salon no longer depended on a paper scheduling book.
The Salon was Ready for the Big-Time
Website traffic for the hair salon, and online appointment bookings were really heating up. The schedule became so overbooked that it required a 2-3 month wait to get in on some Saturdays. This posed an issue, all of the website traffic was not utilizing the online appointment booking capabilities. Who wants to wait 2-3 months for professional hair color? Even the wedding hair & makeup services booked out a year in advance.
The decision was made to dive in. Because of the immense success, it was decided to start the process of looking for a salon location that would be solely owned. This was much easier said than done.
The Search had Begun
In the search, it was discovered that a new location was split into two categories: full construction required or purchasing an existing business. Several locations crossed the radar, that were pursued, requiring a full construction buildout. Ambitions were pumped, ecstatic, and happy, until the estimates from the general contractor were obtained. Nearly all of these types of locations required extensive work to supply water drainage, something that is quite important to shampoo a clients hair. Quite frankly, it is amazing how much it would cost just to dispose of some soapy water. The salon stopped looking at full construction type salons and started looking at pre-existing businesses.
Hopes became quickly discouraged with the pre-existing businesses too. All of the existing owners wanted to be compensated, grandiosely, for their failing businesses. Furthermore, "the smell of dirty laundry" was in the air at many of these locations. In retrospect, it was silly to try to conform the unique style of Do the Bang Thing to someone else's business. Especially when their business wasn't doing so hot.
Eventually, an existing hair salon was found, that the business was no longer running out of, that allowed for remodeling and re-energizing of the location.
The Salon Today - 4 Years in the Making
Currently, the salon is in the process of finishing a remodel and moving, as well as interviewing stylists and spa providers. The salon is both eager and excited to start the next leg of an intense business journey and are thankful for all of the great clients that have made this possible. Soon, there will be photos of the new Denver hair salon on the salon website. Also, salon or spa providers in the Denver-metro area looking for a new career should submit resumes on the salon careers page.
Do the Bang Thing Salon is proud to have had such humble beginnings as an in-home hair salon and encourage those that may not be able to get away from the home, to consider working from home.
