Through the voice of poetry, “A New Song: Responding Poetically to the Psalms” (published by WestBow Press) shares examples of how readers can use their creative voices and talents to respond and give back to God.

“I had been working through the Psalms devotionally for a couple of years and started to write poetry in response to each Psalm,” author D. P. Myers explains. “As I shared some with other people, many suggested that I compile them and offer them for public viewing. Not wanting to merely write a book of poetry, I wrote on the creative process as it relates to our being made in the image of God as well as what our responsibility to share spiritual insights with others, regardless of the critical success of them, might be.”

Not simply presenting creative elements for reader meditation, “A New Song” challenges readers to find their own creativity so that they can respond to the Word of God. “I can think of no greater audience for our unique voice than the creator of the universe who, I believe waits to see what we will create in response to his Word and his world,” Myers says.

Speaking of his readers, he goes on to say that: “It would be nice to know that the poems in the book were helpful to someone, but I would love to read about or hear about people starting to walk through scripture, not only the Psalms, and respond with their own creative voice.”

In 2012, Myers left teaching to attend Talbot Seminary, where he received a master’s degree in biblical studies. Currently, he spends his time reading, writing, studying and volunteering at the high school and with his church. This is Myers’ first book. More information can be found at:
