TORONTO, Dec. 19, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The hidden world of constant movement of electrical fields, which migrate through the brain during sleep, fascinates Dr. Mark Doidge. These movements are present in every human being starting before birth, and they are fundamental to being human. His fascination led Doidge to write "Atlas of the Electrical Generators of Sleep" (published by Xlibris).
The book tackles the subject of imaging the locations in the brain of the generators of the brain waves during sleep. It paves the way for a paradigm shift in the practice of sleep medicine in sleep labs. It is based on a technique called "EEG source localization" which uses math to estimate where the brain waves
are coming from. No known present-day sleep labs include source localization with images and movies of
the generators of the waveforms of sleep.
This book will appeal to anyone looking for a new way to understand brain activity. It will have special appeal to anyone with sleep problems, or an interest in neuroscience or sleep physiology. (In the appendices, there is a very practical and very detailed sleep questionnaire that has special relevance to anyone with a sleep disorder.
Doidge states: "Atlas of the Electrical Generators of Sleep" demonstrates that there is a new, practical way to study sleep and it could and should be integrated into sleep labs worldwide. He is also, with Dr. Edward Brown, the co-originator of the NORTH Network, which became the Ontario Telemedicine Network, presently the leading telemedicine network in Ontario, Canada. He has been working in the field of brain signal analysis by source localization of electroencephalogram for 15 years. He served in the role of leading the development of many of the new imaging and analysis tools that are featured in the book.
