Columbus, Ohio coffee roaster Crimson Cup Coffee & Tea has been selected as the Great Lakes Regional Finalist for the 2016 DREAM BIG Small Business of the Year Award sponsored by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The company was named a Blue Ribbon award winner in February.
Regional finalists and Blue Ribbon winners will be honored at the 12th annual America’s Small Business Summit, which will take place June 13-15 in Washington, D.C. On June 14, one regional finalist will receive the DREAM BIG Small Business of the Year Award and a $10,000 cash prize.
“This award is a testament to the hard work of everyone in the Crimson Cup community – from our central Ohio cuppers to the small farmers who grow our coffee and the community of thriving independent coffee shops and specialty grocers across 29 states and internationally who distribute Crimson Cup coffee to consumers,” said Founder and President Greg Ubert.
Crimson Cup celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2016. Among other recent honors, it was named 2016 Macro Roaster of the Year by Roast Magazine and 2016 Ohio Small Business of the Year by the Ohio Made Awards.
The Columbus coffee roaster imports nearly half a million pounds of specialty coffee annually. The company’s business footprint stretches from its Columbus, Ohio headquarters across the United States to coffee-growing countries in Central and South America, Africa and Asia. Within the past year it has opened a new, 20,000-square-foot roasting and distribution facility at 1925 Alum Creek Drive and a 7,000-square-foot Innovation Lab at 700 Alum Creek Drive in Columbus.
Ubert is the author of Seven Steps to Success in the Specialty Coffee Industry. The proven steps outlined in his book form the basis of Crimson Cup’s coffee shop franchise alternative program, which has helped more than 250 independent coffee shops in 29 states start and maintain successful businesses. A dozen or more new shops open each year.
The DREAM BIG program recognizes companies for their dedication to the principles of free enterprise and contributions to restoring jobs and supporting economic growth. All businesses are evaluated in four key areas - business strategy; staff training and motivation; customer service; and community involvement.
