Alcohol & Drug Rehab Guelph Launches Program to Free Adults and Adolescents from PCP Addiction
Guelph, Canada (PRWEB) January 18, 2014 -- A Guelph alcohol and drug rehab center is launching a program to get adults and adolescents free from PCP addiction at Drug Addiction Treatment Centers.
Information from a Government of Canada website reveals that "PCP (phencyclidine) is a hallucinogen but also combines features associated with stimulants and depressants. It was originally tested as a surgical anesthetic in the 1950s. It is known as a 'dissociative anesthetic' because it can make a person feel a sense of detachment as if their mind is separated from their body. Use in humans was abandoned because many patients became agitated, delusional, and irrational while recovering from their surgery. The use of PCP was eventually limited to anesthetizing and tranquilizing large animals. PCP is now considered an illegal drug. PCP sold on the street is made in illegal labs. In its pure form, PCP is a white crystalline powder that has a bitter taste. It can be mixed with dyes and can be sold in a variety of tablets, capsules, and as colored powders. Because PCP is relatively easy to make, it is often substituted for - or mixed in with - other drugs such as methamphetamine, LSD or cannabis. PCP is normally snorted, smoked or ingested, but can also be injected. For smoking, it is often applied to a leafy material like parsley, oregano or marijuana (in which case it is called 'super weed,' 'supergrass,' 'killerweed' or 'peaceweed')."
With drug rehab, adults and adolescents get a chance to clean up from PCP or other drugs like cocaine, heroin, marijuana, or prescription drugs. A part of this process is detoxification, cleansing out the physical body filled with mind-altering substances. Drug detox’s main goal is to rid the body of chemical toxins.
Once this process takes place, then counseling and therapeutic methods can enter into play. More times than not, there are real-life issues that a person has used drugs to hide, repress or deny within themselves. Some issues might include physical, emotional, spiritual or mental abuse. Drug rehab allows clients time to discern and figure out what is their truth around these situations.
Counselors and therapists with many years of experience in the field of substance abuse treatment and addiction can help make the transition from addiction to recovery easier. These drug rehab staff members can rely on their personal and professional experiences with addiction to offer compassion and support to recovering individuals working to overcome their addictions.
Drug rehab centers stand firmly upon the foundation of the Twelve Spiritual Principles of recovery, which include Honesty, Hope, Faith, Courage, Integrity, Willingness, Humility, Love for Others (Brotherly and Sisterly), Justice, Perseverance, Spirituality and Service. These centers exist to support and guide recovering individuals as they learn to seek a different path that does not involve drugs.
