Denver Drunk Driving Accident Lawyers at Bell & Pollock, P.C., Comment on MADD Crash Report Rating Colorado and Other States
Denver, CO (PRWEB) February 13, 2015 -- Commenting on a news report detailing state-by-state drunk driving prevention measures, Denver personal injury attorneys at Bell & Pollock, P.C., today applauded efforts in Colorado to keep roads safe from people who make the reckless choice to drive after drinking.
According to 9News, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) in January released a report rating Colorado and every other state on efforts to prevent drunk driving fatalities. (“See how Colorado rates for drunk driving prevention,” 9News, Jan. 15, 2015).
Attorney Gary Bell Jr. said Bell & Pollock proudly partners with MADD in Colorado to educate the public about the dangers of drunk driving. The firm serves as the “Victims Sponsor” for an annual walk at Sloan’s Lake Park in Denver every August, Bell said.
“In addition to partnering with MADD, we have represented victims and families who have been affected by drunk driving accidents,” Bell said. “We know first-hand how devastating these accidents can be. Whether you lost a loved one or you were seriously injured by a drunk driver, your world can be turned upside-down. So that’s why it’s heartening to read that Colorado is doing well in terms of preventing these tragic accidents. We realize that accidents can happen in any state. That’s why it’s critical for drivers to continue to observe the rules of the road and drive sober.”
According to the Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility, there were 133 alcohol-impaired driving fatalities in 2012 and 26,180 arrests for driving under the influence that year.
The 9News report notes that Colorado earned a 5-star rating, which means the state has taken strong action to tackle the problem of drinking and driving. According to MADD’s report about Colorado, the state has implemented the use of ignition interlocks for all convicted drunk drivers, which is linked to a decline in drunk driving deaths by 19 percent. Other state efforts that lead to a high MADD rating include sobriety checkpoints, license revocation, child endangerment and no-refusal events.
Attorney Bradley P. Pollock said such aggressive measures save lives. “We know that sobriety checkpoints, the ignition interlock program, education and other efforts work,” Pollock said. “We applaud the people of Colorado who make the responsible choice to drive sober. If you have been drinking and you need to be on the road, your best choice is to call a cab or find a sober driver. Despite Colorado being a model state for drunk driving prevention, we know that every day some drivers make the reckless decision to drink and drive. The consequences of their actions can be grave.”
Pollock said anyone who is injured by a drunk driver in Colorado or who loses a loved one should seek the advice of legal counsel. He said the experienced attorneys at Bell & Pollock fight to protect the rights of victims and hold the negligent drivers accountable.
