For many convicted drunk drivers, the legal repercussions of a DUI accident are just the beginning. Often times, these drunk drivers must live with the knowledge that they’ve cost an innocent person or persons their lives.
Louisville, KY (PRWEB) September 03, 2013
Louisville personal injury attorney Mat Slechter said today that a recent double fatal accident serves as a reminder that all drivers must operate responsibly to avoid causing serious injuries or death. According to WHAS 11 (“Hodgenville man facing murder charges after fatal accident Sunday,” August 19), a driver who was allegedly intoxicated has been charged with murder after his involvement in a two-car crash that claimed the lives of an elderly couple.
“Drunk driving continues to be a plague on our streets,” said Slechter, who represents victims of negligence and families who lost loved ones in accidents. “In this tragic accident, alcohol may have played a role. Unfortunately, drunk driving accidents happen all too frequently in Kentucky. The long-term impact can be devastating to families.”
WHAS 11 reported that the accident occurred at the intersection of Ky. 1135 and Ky. 61. The elderly couple attempted to cross the intersection in their car, which was broadsided by a Chevrolet Blazer traveling southbound on Ky. 61, according to WHAS.
The article states that the driver of the Blazer was arrested at the scene of the accident on charges of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, not having a valid driver’s license or insurance, possession of an open alcoholic in a motor vehicle, and two counts of murder.
In addition, according to WHAS 11, the driver’s 10-year old son – a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the crash – was taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
“Make no mistake about it, drunk driving in Kentucky costs lives. For many convicted drunk drivers, the legal repercussions of a DUI accident are just the beginning. Often times, these drunk drivers must live with the knowledge that they’ve cost an innocent person or persons their lives,” said Slechter, an auto accident attorney in Louisville. “Furthermore, victims of a drunk driving accident often have grounds to file a lawsuit against the negligent party to collect compensation for their injuries or for the wrongful death of a loved one.”
