LASIK XTRA® has given us the opportunity to improve our services and the quality of life of our patients.

Board-certified LASIK surgeon and ophthalmologist, Farooq Ashraf, MD, FACS, has introduced the latest advance LASIK procedure to his international clinic located in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. Called LASIK XTRA®, the procedure is a new eye treatment to help prevent degenerative diseases of the cornea.
LASIK XTRA® is performed during laser eye surgery. After the initial LASIK surgery is done, the cornea is soaked in vitamin B2 (riboflavin) and then illuminated with an ultraviolet light. This effectively cross-links collagen fibers inside the cornea, which can give the cornea enhanced stability.
According to Dr. Ashraf, there are multiple benefits to LASIK XTRA®. The increased corneal stability adds another safety measure to the LASIK procedure, especially for those patients at risk. For patients with high refractive errors, it may stabilize the cornea so the results will last longer, lowering the likelihood of needing a touch-up procedure in the future.
Dr. Ashraf recognized that LASIK is a positive step forward in tending to the vision of many people around the world who suffer from poor eyesight. Now that the Atlantic Vision Clinic in Dubai offers LASIK XTRA®, he can work towards improving their experience even more.
“In order to give our patients the highest degree of care, we must pay attention to technological advancements in our market,” says Dr. Ashraf. “LASIK XTRA® has given us the opportunity to improve our services and the quality of life of our patients.”
