West Palm Beach Car Accident Attorney at Gonzalez & Cartwright Comments on “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” Campaign
West Palm Beach, FL (PRWEB) December 29, 2013 -- Commenting on a report about Florida’s annual “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, West Palm Beach drunk driving accident attorney Charles Cartwright of Gonzalez & Cartwright, P.A. said drivers must act responsibly not only during the holiday season but throughout the year.
According to a Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles December 13th news release (“If You Drink and Drive, Meet Your New Bartenders”), the initiative lasts throughout the duration of the holiday season each year and offers a number of safety tips designed to prevent alcohol-related car accidents.
“While the roads in South Florida can be deadly during the holiday season, drunk driving really is a year-round problem in the area. We have handled many serious injury cases involving impaired drivers,” Cartwright said. “The lessons learned from the state’s ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ campaign can be used to reduce the risk of alcohol-related crashes and fatalities every day in West Palm Beach and across Florida.”
The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles states that more than 800 people lost their lives in Florida in 2012 due to alcohol-related crashes, according to the news release.
The agency urges drivers to act responsibly while consuming alcohol. The “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign recommends that those who plan on drinking designate a sober driver and that drivers who believe they’ve had too much to drink should use a taxi, public transportation, or phone a sober friend.
Furthermore, state officials recommended that friends, family and coworkers take responsibility for one another. This includes not allowing a visibly intoxicated person to get behind the wheel and alerting law enforcement officials when an impaired driver is observed on the road.
“Nearly every driver knows that impaired driving can have deadly consequences, yet we continue to see tragic accidents involving alcohol year after year in Florida,” Cartwright said. “The tips offered by the state during the holiday season should be applied year-round. It’s the responsibility of drivers in West Palm Beach and all over Florida to drink responsibly, drive responsibly, and avoid driving under the influence of alcohol.”
Cartwright said anyone injured by a drunk driver or who loses a loved one because of another person’s careless actions should consult with an attorney. A lawyer can help pursue compensation and closure and hold the negligent individual accountable.
