Incorporating aspects of current events in the Ukraine, corruption in sport, the risks of rising nationalism and the challenges faced by the European Union, author Duncan Pell’s new fictionMuch More than a Game: An Andrew Ball Novel” (published by AuthorHouse UK) serves as part novel, part social commentary.

The book’s main character, cricket aficionado Andrew Ball, is a semi-retired intelligence officer with a lot on his plate. He becomes entangled in an ex-cabinet minister’s dealings with an Italian secret society while attempting to save the life of an old friend in Florence. His repertoire is further complicated when his assistance is needed to organize a network of spies along Ukraine’s eastern border.

Meanwhile, England’s cricket captain is attacked and injured. Player Ian Thorne is promoted to lead the team on their tour in India. But Thorne’s life takes an unexpected turn when his ex-wife disappears and a Sunday newspaper exposes him for conspiring to organize betting scams.
