(PRWEB UK) 24 July 2013 -- As the school summer holidays approach, parents’ minds invariably turn to ways to fill six weeks of holidays with suitable entertainment for the kids.
1. Decorate their room
Children like to feel they have their own private space, somewhere they can retreat to with friends to play or use as a haven when tired or needing some quiet time. It is important that your child’s bedroom reflects their personality so they feel content with their surroundings. A great way to keep them occupied is to redecorate their room together, not only to keep them entertained but also to allow them some input and control over the finished look. For a practical addition your child will love, invest in a new bunk bed for the perfect way to ensure there is adequate bed space when friends are invited for a sleep over. Alternatively add fun to bedtime with a bunk bed and slide, a most enjoyable way to get out of bed in the morning! Dunelm offers a wide range of beds which are perfect for adding the finishing touch to your child’s room.
2. Get crafty
All kids enjoy getting messy so why not try to hone their artistic skills at the same time? Arts and crafts are the perfect way for your young ones to learn new skills while getting a bit messy with paints and glitter, and once they have finished expressing themselves they’ll have something to hang with pride in their bedroom or in full view on the fridge. While it’s great to let your kids engage their imagination, take precautions to ensure things don’t get too messy, use a waterproof tablecloth to cover the surface of the table and ensure all surrounding soft furnishings are protected from splashes and drips.
3. Enjoy a picnic in the sun
Whether you take a long stroll around the park with the kids or just enjoy relaxing in the garden with some hands-on games, a picnic can be the perfect end to a summer’s day. Pack up some scrumptious food in a hamper, grab a blanket and you’ll be set for a relaxing and enjoyable day out. The kids will love being out in the sunshine with plenty of room to run around and play games, and eating outdoors on a blanket can be quite the adventure for your little explorers! Picnics are a great way to enjoy quality family time and make the most of the great outdoors without breaking the bank.
4. Get creative in the kitchen
One of the most enjoyable pastimes for both parent and child is time spent baking a delicious cake together. Cooking is a great skill to learn as a child, and can really help them to appreciate how their food is made, where ingredients come from and improve their coordination. A batch of cup cakes is a great idea as they offer plenty of opportunity for experimenting with decorations , or opt for one generously proportioned and devilishly tasty double chocolate cake and compete over who gets to lick the spoon! There is a whole range of bakeware and fun baking accessories available on the market today, and causing a stir in the kitchen is not only a fun way to pass the time but the finished result can be enjoyed by the whole family.
