Edie Singer is a sweet, optimistic, energetic little granny who loves staying busy and working with young people. An Omaha native, Irvine-based Edie was in real estate but recently she started thinking outside the box and began investing in inventions, even creating some of her own. With her stylish, innovative small-space friendly line of convertible furniture–DUO BED and DUO-PILLOW-- a back support for driving, travel, couch-surfing, studying and video games.[http://www.duobed.com , she attracted the attention of WALMART and was invited to make videos to compete for the chance to be stocked in their stores.
There wasn't a minute to waste.
On July 23RD Edie discovered the email invitation from WALMART to participate in their video competition, ‘GET ON THE SHELF’ a kind of AMERICAN IDOL or AMERICA’S GOT TALENT for manufacturers of products that have universal appeal.
The submission deadline was July 31st! Edie Singer loves a challenge. She hired LA-based writer-producer-director JUDI JORDAN to create two spots. Together with SPAN films JORDAN created comedic shorts that explained Edie’s products with little-to-no dialogue. The spots; STUDIO SOLUTIONS, about four guys sharing a tiny studio apartment, and THE PILLOW THIEF, set in a casting session where anxious actors snatch the only comfy pillow while waiting for auditions, are both based on real experiences, and have gotten rave reviews.
DUO-BED, perfect for student, young professionals or anyone with a small living area that needs to serve multi-purposes, DUO-BED, sturdy, custom-made and well-priced, converts from stylish seating for studying and living to comfortable, firm-support beds for sleeping.
DUO PILLOW, a chic support pillow, is available in a wide range of colors and fabrics. A few days after submitting her videos, Edie was surprised to hear from WALMART that her product videos were selected to advance to the finals.

A firm believer in American-made products and diversity hiring, Edie's struggled to get the brand launched. Not the type to give up, she had various samples of her elegant, neat furniture manufactured and tested—Edie’s donated seating to Ronald McDonald House, and students at dorms have used DUO BED and loved it.
Ever practical, Edie opened her DUO-BED showroom in Irvine to professionals in need of offices as DUO CAMPUS, a freelance open office space for independent business types who pay a monthly fee to work from the attractive, roomy space. Despite all of her efforts, Edie was stumped on marketing until ‘the letter’ from America’s mega-retailer arrived.
All she needs now are the votes to convince WALMART, and other retailers to carry her great furniture. For less than consumers might pay at IKEA, and CB, savvy buyers can get a custom, American-made combo that sits, sleeps and supports.
Edie Singer an American original, not afraid to start over, even as a septuagenarian.
Learning to use Twitter, Facebook, Pintrest, Linkedin.com, she's doing whatever it takes to get her brand DUO BED into the right hands, Always kind and smiling, Edie is an inspiration for seniors and female entrepreneurs of all ages.
WALMART JUDGES will use vote totals as an indicator of public support, to help give them an idea of products' commercial viability so vote for Edie, and support American-made goods.
