The American Chemical Society (ACS) has awarded DuPont researcher Brian McCauley the 2016 National Chemical Technician Award. This award honors excellence and professionalism among technicians, operators, analysts and other applied chemical technology professionals. McCauley was selected for the award based on his technical achievements, leadership, mentoring and outstanding contributions to quality and safety, among other criteria.

“R&D is becoming increasingly networked and today more than ever we need scientists and engineers to bring unique strengths and capabilities together to create solutions to global challenges,” said Alexa Dembek, director, DuPont Science & Innovation. “Brian’s strong mix of technical capabilities and leadership qualities make him an integral part of our research program. We are very proud that he has been recognized with this prestigious award.”

The award was presented to McCauley at the spring luncheon of the ACS Committee on Technician Affairs. The award luncheon was held at the 2016 ACS spring national meeting in San Diego, California.

“Chemistry is the branch of science that investigates the composition, structure and properties of substances. Through chemistry, we can better predict how substances will interact and even create new materials with useful properties like DuPont™ Kevlar® and bio-based materials like DuPont™ Sorona®,” said McCauley. “I have always felt at home in the lab, and I am truly pleased that work I enjoy can have such an important impact on the world.”

McCauley is an associate investigator in the Corporate Center for Analytical Sciences group of DuPont Science & Innovation. Based at the Experimental Station in Wilmington, Delaware, he is responsible for new method development for new materials, and product and project development support. He joined DuPont in 2009. McCauley holds a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from Colorado School of Mines.
