Ed Cruz Uses Martial Arts to Fight for What’s Right in New Novel
CHICAGO, IL. (PRWEB) October 03, 2014 -- Author Ed Cruz challenges readers to do something with their lives with his new novel about a 19-year-old female fighter. Title character Kirin Rise will figure out what it means to be herself as she struggles against the apathy of a nation in the new novel “Kirin Rise: The Cast of Shadows” (published by AuthorHouse).
Taking place in the year 2032 in Chicago, “Kirin Rise” introduces readers to a martial art based in common sense called Wing Chun Gung Fu. The book examines the power of the human spirit and its pressing need to always challenge what is known to be wrong and to make the world a better place.
Short and scrawny, Kirin doesn’t look much like a hero, but enraged by government corruption and corporate greed and having a secret mastery of the martial art Wing Chun Gung Fu spurs her on. With the guidance of her Sifu, or teacher, and the help of those who love her, Kirin sets out to right the wrongs in the world, starting in the most unlikely place: the weekly bloodbath known as Chum Night.
“Kirin Rise symbolizes that anyone can achieve great things,” Cruz says. “It’s not what you are given when you are born, but what you earn. When the desire is there and the skill is learned, what one person can do is incredible. The book is about figuring out, who you are. Bottom line: Be you.”
