One of the nation’s most-attended churches (Dallas area-based Fellowship Church) is ready to embrace the NFL culture and tackle potentially low attendance this fall by welcoming some of the biggest NFL names to the stage – including Tony Romo, Troy Aikman, and Ryan Tannehill.

Ed Young sits down with Tony Romo, Quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys.

“Football is essentially a religion in our country. And historically speaking, the new football season flattens church attendance – even at Fellowship. We want to show people that football can meet faith - you don't have to choose."

When the whistle blows this weekend to kick off the new NFL season, churches across the country know what’s next. Swelling numbers in football stadiums and declining numbers in congregations. In short, the NFL season demolishes church attendance. But Fellowship Church and Pastor Ed Young are ready to tackle that trend by engaging football fanatics.

Pastor Young, known for his unconventional and unique teaching techniques, is embracing today’s football culture by teaming up with some NFL heavy hitters. For the next several weekends, Pastor Young sits down one-on-one with some of the biggest quarterbacks in football – including the Dallas Cowboys’ Tony Romo, NFL Hall-of-Famer Troy Aikman, and the Miami Dolphins’ Ryan Tannehill – in a brand new teaching series at the church called “Quarterback”.

Pastor Young says, “Football is essentially a religion in our country. And historically speaking, the new football season flattens church attendance – even at Fellowship. But we’re ready with this series! We want to show people that football can meet faith. You don’t have to choose one over the other. I’m going to sit down with these quarterbacks and show how some of the most notable men in this game are also men of character, strength, and yes, faith. But this isn’t your typical interview; I’m going to be talking with these guys like you’ve never heard before!”

The new series kicks off this weekend (September 12/13) at all ten Fellowship Church locations in North Texas; Miami, Florida; and London, England. In addition to the one-on-one interviews, every church location will have events and activities for the entire family!

Young says, “We’re calling an all-out blitz with this series, and we’re turning every one of our Fellowship locations into a full-on football experience! We’ve got full-sized uprights and referees in the parking lots, marching bands and cheerleaders; live sports commentators, concessions stands, and thousands of thunder sticks that we’re handing out. We’re also giving everyone a chance to win Dallas Cowboys tickets and a ton of signed NFL memorabilia. There’s nothing more engaging this time of the year than football, and our goal is to leverage that to help people discover God’s ultimate playbook for their lives!”

All church experiences are free and open to the entire community, and will be streamed live as well. Times and locations for all Fellowship Church locations can be found on the church’s website, FellowshipChurch.com.
