Global expert in thermal simulations for electronic components, Maya HTT join their efforts with TM4, world leader in electric motors for the automotive industry as well as in the design of permanent magnet generators for wind and tidal sector, to participate in the Little Box Challenge, launched by Google and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

The objective of the contest is to divide by ten an inverter’s size, an electronic device which allows the conversion of a direct current into alternative. According to Google, the project should help to develop the use of solar energy in the world. The US firm could also use the results of this research to "increase the energy efficiency of its data centers powered by solar energy," says Marc Lafontaine, Sales Director Maya HTT.

An engineering challenge:

To meet this challenge, the Quebec duo will put the emphasis on the thermal simulation which will be a determining factor in the optimization and miniaturization of the inverter.

TM4 and Maya HTT agree that the biggest challenge related to miniaturization is usually the thermal component and mastery of this aspect of engineering will be critical to the success of this project.

For over 30 years, Maya HTT has been the largest provider of numerical simulation solutions in Canada. Maya HTT's software and services are sold in more than 50 countries, in partnership with Siemens, and their expertise is internationally recognized in the field of simulation (CAE) thermal, mechanical, dynamic, acoustic and multi-physics as well as in the areas design (CAD), manufacturing (CAM), product lifecycle management (PLM) and mechanical testing.

Like all participants, Maya HTT and TM4 will need to provide their component’s plan to Google before July 2015. The result of the challenge will be announced in January 2016.
