Claire, a recent retiree, knows she has to do something to stave off the boredom, the loneliness. Her search leads her to the Institute of Psychology where she enrolls in a psychoanalysis course and quickly befriends another woman, Phyllis. In a shocking twist, Phyllis soon winds up dead, but Claire suspects there’s more than meets the eye concerning her new friend’s death.

She begins investigating the death, realizing she could become the murderer’s next target. Claire knows that she can only rely on herself and confronts the murderer using her computer as her shield.

In “The Trap of Freedom” (published by Archway Publishing), author Ella Litvak explores the power of psychological manipulation through this unfolding mystery.

“To safeguard themselves from physical harm, some people use guns,” Litvak says. “Nowadays, however, psychology has become a powerful hidden weapon that unscrupulous people use to attack the vulnerable and the unsuspecting. In the face of such an attack, sometimes a mere computer can become an impenetrable shield.”

An excerpt from “The Trap of Freedom”:

“As he kissed her, he glanced over her shoulder and saw his father enter through the front door. Would he suffer the same way as his mother had, or would his humiliation in front of other people make his suffering even worse? The floor squeaked as his father began walking down the hall towards the sitting room. It was a soft sound that could only be heard if somebody was anticipating it. David kissed Vicki more and more strongly. She didn't hear anything.”
