EMC reached two significant milestones in its multi-year plan to provide LED lighting upgrades, kiosk and interactive exhibit lighting, and volunteer support for The Works Museum, a hands-on engineering and design museum for kids and families located in Bloomington, MN.
In February EMC began its efforts to support The Works Museum’s STEM education platform by sponsoring a visit by three second grade classes from Fair Oaks Elementary School in Brooklyn Park, MN. The 60 students spent two hours with Museum staff and EMC volunteers, who created a LED switch experiment the kids took home to show their families.
“This was an excellent educational field trip opportunity,” said Fair Oaks Second Grade Teacher Carmy Mersereau. “The Works Museum’s hands on environment meant there was something for everyone. The kids are still talking about it and will never forget their experience.”
“It was a memorable day for the students who not only got to visit The Museum but also participate in a unique opportunity with EMC,” added The Works Museum CEO Jill Measells.
Recently EMC volunteers completed LED lighting upgrades for The Museum that began in late 2018. In total the work is expected to reduce the 40,000 square foot facility’s energy output by 105,107 kilowatt hours (kWh). The equivalent of eliminating 8,800 gallons of gasoline consumption, it will return more than $10,000 in annual savings to the nonprofit’s bottom line.
“We know The Works Museum is committed to maximizing its investment into its education and programming, so we challenged ourselves to make a contribution that could truly make a significant impact,” said EMC CEO Howard Heckes.
The next phase of EMC’s work with The Museum is expected to begin later in 2019 and includes evaluating additional lighting upgrades and creating activities and programming related to LED lighting, controls and IoT technologies.
EMC provides leading-edge LED lighting + controls + IoT conversion systems and service solutions to a broad range of multinational retail, commercial, industrial and specialized customers. Since 2003, the company has used its total project management approach, EnergyMAXX, to successfully implement thousands of lighting upgrade projects, saving clients across industries over six billion kilowatt-hours of energy.
