Shirley Montoute has lived a varied life with a career in the counseling profession and a career as a businesswoman, mother and wife. From this, she is able to creatively write with insight and passion. Living with chronic illness that came to her in the prime of her life, she is able to inspire and identify with the emotional and physical challenges needed to break through barriers. With her life and experiences, she has collated some of her writing talents into her very first book, “Emotions of a Lifetime” (published by Xlibris UK), to share her experiences with others.
An excerpt from the book reads:
I was afraid / When I first saw you, I was afraid to meet you / When I met you, I was afraid to love you / When I loved you, I was afraid to tell you / Now I’ve told you, I’m afraid to lose you
“This book focuses not on the characters, but on thoughts and feelings personified,” said Montoute. “It is about real feelings, real people, real emotions. It is true, it is real, it portrays a lifetime of emotion.”
Written with a degree of intimacy that works to put the reader in the poet’s viewpoint, this book’s highly evocative poems entice its readers to experience the emotions of a lifetime. From love to fear, from a beautiful smile to an anger most profound, Montoute’s “Emotions of a Lifetime” embodies the passion, the joy and the sheer emotion that is life.
