ENCINITAS, Calif., April 4, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Encinitas Half Marathon and 5K, sponsored by Herman Cook Volkswagen of Encinitas, California, took place last weekend to the delight of all involved.
Approximately 6,250 runners from 47 states and 26 countries, including Mexico, Canada, Germany, South Korea, England and Switzerland, descended upon Encinitas to enjoy a course that included over seven miles of oceanfront running and landmarks as Swami's Temple, the Encinitas boat houses, the Surfing Madonna Mosaic and the Cardiff Kook Statue.
The marathon was won by Sergio Reyes of Palmdale, Calif., with a time of 1 hour, 5 minutes and 37 seconds, which equals an impressive five-minute mile average.
Over 700 volunteers teamed up to help the event go off without a hitch. Herman Cook VW helped set up JAM Stations along the course while TruMoo volunteers ensured each runner received a carton of chocolate milk after the race to help with recovery.
All racers also received a medal, a race shirt, a race mug, a free organic blueberry muffin from Ki's Restaurant, Nuttzo bar bites, Kashi bars, and bananas from Sprouts Farmers Market.
And the fun didn't end with the end of the race, either, as post-race festivities included an after-party featuring free beers from local craft breweries such as the Coronado Brewing Company, Karl Strauss, Culture Brewing, Saint Archer, BoochCraft and Modern Times.
All proceeds from the Encinitas Half Marathon and 5K will benefit numerous local charities focused on helping disabled veterans, children with special needs, local ocean conservation projects and more.
