Entrepreneurs' Organization Orange County Presents: The Silent Struggle
ORANGE COUNTY, Calif., Feb. 16, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Entrepreneurs' Organization Orange County is opening its doors to host an important event that speaks to an unspoken problem in our society today.
Whether we realize it or not, each year over 47,000 Americans lose their lives as a result of suicide. It is a frightening fact that this number tragically continues to rise every year.
This silent struggle is driven by the pressures of modern life to appear that we have everything together, that our lives are on track, and that we are happy as individuals. But approximately 75-95% of the population will struggle with a mental health issue at some stage.
Truth is that many of us are in denial about our mental health and the health of those we love.
Middle-aged adults between the ages of 45-59 account for 20% of all suicides each year. Between the ages of 10-24 years old, suicide is the second highest leading cause of death. For the youth of today, the increased pressure of technology and social media has added to their sense of disconnection and stress.
EO Orange County believes that our community needs a chance to discuss this epidemic that affects our community and the entire nation. Through awareness, we are better able to support those who are suffering alone.
Join us for a very special two hour EO event, where we explore the dangers and issues surrounding mental health in our society. Learn what you can do to help yourself, family and friends who may be suffering alone.
Our evening event will feature two important, insightful guest speakers:
Sue Klebold, author of the New York Times bestseller, A Mothers's Reckoning. Sue describes the guilt, despair, shame that was part of being a parent of one of the Columbine shooters. She explores the reality of mental illness and how it affects those closest to us, often without us even knowing.
Dan Radecki is the Chief Scientific Officer at the Academy of Brain-based Leadership, which offers a scientifically validated, brain-based approach for future-oriented leaders and organizations interested in optimizing their performance, relationships and health.
In addition, we will host several support organizations including Didi Hirsch Mental and the OC Health Care Agency to provide direct availability of professional help.
Due to the serious nature of the topic, this event is strictly for registered attendees. It is open to parents and teenagers, at the discretion of each parent.
