Bay County Register of Deeds Begins E-recording with Simplifile
BAY COUNTY, Mich. (PRWEB) December 08, 2014 -- Bay County, Mich., is now accepting all document types for electronic recording (e-recording) through Simplifile, the nation’s largest e-recording service, providing a faster, more cost-effective recording option for the register of deeds’ office and its customers.
“Bay County decided to e-record to give our customers more options to deliver their documents and to provide faster return to the originator,” said Bay County Register of Deeds Brandon Krause. “The customers will benefit from the speed of return and possible shipping cost savings.”
Instead of having to mail documents such as deeds or other land records, submitters such as title companies, banks, and attorneys will have the option to scan or upload the documents electronically through Simplifile’s secure, web-based service and have them submitted, recorded, and returned from the county in minutes.
“In addition to providing more timely and efficient recording service to customers, this system will also result in more efficient internal processing between the register of deeds and treasurer’s office,” said Bay County Treasurer Rick Brzezinski. “Each year approximately 5,000 documents from the deed tax certification and delinquent tax forfeiture or foreclosure process are sent and recorded manually. These documents can be transmitted electronically, greatly reducing the amount of time spent in both offices for these transactions.”
Increased document security and fewer check-writing expenses are also some of the benefits of e-recording, as recording fees and payments can be processed securely through Simplifile via Automated Clearing House or electronic funds transfer.
“Michelle Wilsey from Simplifile has been extremely helpful to the Bay County staff and has provided us with the tools necessary to make this a smooth transition,” Krause said.
Bay County is the 27th Michigan county to adopt e-recording with Simplifile and joins more 1,170 counties across the nation that have also implemented Simplifile’s e-recording service.
High-speed Internet access, a PC, and a scanner are the minimum requirements for customers to begin e-recording with Simplifile.
