California Expands E-Recording in Merced County with Simplifile
MERCED COUNTY, Calif. (PRWEB) September 06, 2013 -- California has expanded electronic recording (e-recording) of land documents in Merced County with Simplifile, the nation’s largest e-recording service provider.
“Our customers are able to submit documents when they have them ready,” said Barbara Levey, Merced County’s Assessor-Clerk-Recorder-Registrar of Voters. “We also are able to provide a much faster turn-around to the customers. They are getting their recorded documents quickly, often within minutes of their submission to us.”
Simplifile’s online recording service eliminates the need for the county’s customers including title companies, banks, and attorneys, to submit their land record documents by express mail or courier service, a more costly and time-consuming method in comparison to e-recording. With e-recording available, users can quickly and conveniently scan, upload, and submit their documents electronically to the county via the Internet.
“Merced County is excited to offer e-recording,” she added. “We have talked to various other counties over the last couple of years and have been impressed with the efficiencies that the e-recording process provides for our staff as well as for our customers. The e-recording efficiencies are notable in the reduced mail volume, both in processing documents received and then being returned to customers via the mail.”
Levey also shared that the county sees value in the fee calculation process and in the imaging process that is available through Simplifile’s e-recording service.
“Our goals for our e-recording this year are to build upon the success that we are already seeing after our initial go-live date just a few short weeks ago. We hope to see continued increases in the percentage of our documents being submitted electronically. Additionally, we hope to continue to increase the efficiencies that our customers are experiencing,” Levey said.
By e-recording with Simplifile, both the county and its submitters will also be able to reduce postage fees, paper, payment errors, and rejected documents.
According to Merced County Chief Deputy Recorder Jennifer Padilla, the county is currently accepting various types of documents for e-recording through Simplifile including all deeds, deeds of trusts, reconveyances, substitution of trustees, trustees deeds, cancellation of defaults, and notices of defaults.
Merced County is the 16th e-recording county in the state of California, joining more than 950 additional recording jurisdictions throughout the nation who have implemented Simplifile’s e-recording service.
