Town of Montville, Conn., Begins E-Recording with Simplifile

Customers will find e-recording very simple, and it will reduce their costs of doing business... Simplifile has made e-recording very easy.

The Town of Montville has started electronic recording (e-recording) with Simplifile, the nation’s largest e-recording service provider, enabling customers including title companies, banks, attorneys and other document submitters to electronically file and record land documents with the town clerk’s office.

E-Recording provides customers with an additional submission option that saves them time and money, as it requires no paper, postage, check-writing expenses, or courier fees.

“The Town of Montville decided to e-record to be more efficient and utilize our limited resources more efficiently,” said Montville Town Clerk Lisa Terry. “Customers will find e-recording very simple, and it will reduce their costs of doing business.”

Through Simplifile’s web-based service, customers can quickly scan and upload documents, such as deeds and mortgages, and submit them to the town clerk’s office for recording electronically at no cost to the tax payers.

“The electronic version of the original document is securely delivered to the town clerk’s office where they electronically receive, review, stamp, record and return the same document back to the submitter through Simplifile usually within minutes,” said Paul Clifford, president of Simplifile.

“It’s so much faster and more convenient for both the submitters and the clerk’s office, as they are able to operate more efficiently without having to rely on the mail to send and receive documents.”

“The eventual goal is to keep moving Montville forward through technology,” Terry said.

With nearly 1,000 recording jurisdictions e-recording with Simplifile nationwide, more and more document submitters have transitioned to e-recording all of their documents, saving them anywhere from hundreds to thousands of dollars on traditional paper recording and mailing expenses each year.

“Simplifile has made e-recording very easy,” Terry added. “They are professional and provide great customer service.”

Montville is the seventh town in Connecticut to adopt Simplifile’s e-recording service this year.
