Costa Rica Rated Top Destination for Off-Peak Summer Travel
Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica (PRWEB) July 18, 2013 -- U.S. magazine Smarter Travel ranked Costa Rica the second best destination for summer travel this year, citing the multiple advantages of visiting this eco-tourism haven during the off-peak season. Other picks that made the magazine’s Top Five list for low season travel include South Africa, St. Lucia, Salt Lake City and Baja, California. The May 17 article, which was featured online, highlights the wonderful aspects of visiting Costa Rica during the green season (a.k.a. rainy season) months of June through August, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious Americans who want to stretch their hard-earned vacation dollars.
“We love Costa Rica at this time of year,” says author Caroline Costello, and while the article mentions the drizzles and humidity associated with rainy season travel, it emphasizes the positive facets of low season vacations in Costa Rica. Costello writes “But with cheaper accommodations, activities, and flights to the country, coupled with less crowds, it's a smart time to visit.”
These sentiments are echoed by Escape Villas’ spokesperson, Sara Hopkins, who says “With just a fraction of the crowds and lower rates on vacation rentals, resorts and hotels, the off-season in Costa Rica is a great choice for your family holiday or romantic escape. When compared with high season rates, you can save anywhere from 10 to 30 percent on your Costa Rica vacation.” In business for 13 years, Escape Villas features affordable rates on luxury villas and ocean view rental homes throughout Costa Rica, with an extensive portfolio of listings in the popular beach destinations of Playa Flamingo, Tamarindo and Manuel Antonio.
Slashed rates and low season discounts on beach rentals isn’t the only reason to visit Costa Rica during the summer, says Hopkins. “If you want to experience the true essence of a tropical rainforest, the rainy season is the best time to come. Everything is spectacularly lush and green, and the wildlife watching is always terrific – rain or shine.” She adds that their Manuel Antonio vacation rentals enjoy steady bookings year-round, but that occupancy drops at least 30 percent during green season months.
Though many foreign travelers may prefer the sunshine and blue skies of Costa Rica’s high season, which runs from mid-December through April, visitors will pay a premium for a rain-free vacation. In contrast, tourists who visit during the country’s off-peak season can often find cheaper flights from many major U.S. hubs. The Smarter Travel article spotlights affordable flights offered by carriers like Frontier, which advertised nonstop service from Denver to San Jose for just $470 round-trip. The catch? These flights are seasonal, and the fares were limited to travel during July.
For families who are considering a last-minute Costa Rica vacation this summer, an increasing number of airlines are offering direct flights to both the San Jose (SJO) and Liberia international airports. In April, United began service from Chicago to SJO, and Delta recently added non-stop flights between San Jose and Los Angeles, California. In a June 27 press release, JetBlue announced that the company would be offering direct flights to San Jose from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, giving budget-minded travelers plenty of options.
During the low season, Escape Villas features special deals on select Costa Rica house rentals that come with lavish amenities and the built-in convenience of concierge assistance for all in-country transportation and tours. Hopkins invites travelers to visit the Escape Villas website to learn more about their eco tours, villas and vacation homes in Costa Rica.
