In Run, Buddy, Run, author Eva L. Dunavan pens an endearing story that will teach children about boundaries, choices, and consequences. It introduces, Buddy, a German Shepherd who escapes from a storm and comes to their farm. His amusing and unforgettable adventures will surely capture the readers’ imagination and impart to them valuable lessons that they will always remember.
After a scary thunderstorm, Buddy leaves the thicket where he hid the night before. He is tired, hungry and lost. His feeble attempt to catch a rabbit or squirrel only intensifies his hunger, and so he goes from house to house seeking food. He passes by a kitchen where a lady kneads dough and he smells the aroma of baking bread. Thinking that she might feed him and offer him something to drink, he goes to the door. However, he is driven away. The same thing happens at the next farm. Eventually, he seeks shelter in a toolshed for the night. The next morning, he snarls, snaps, and growls his way past the farmer who comes into the toolshed. Buddy was taught at an early age to be careful with strangers and not to give his trust right away.
That first meeting started off rocky but Buddy and the farmer eventually develop a special bond. The farmer and his wife are kindhearted people who give Buddy a new home. In their midst, he learns new things every day. Trust took time but now Buddy feels that he will gladly give his life to protect his new family. He learned that not everybody is bad, and he also taught them that they should not always trust immediately, that actions tell a lot about people. They taught him to give people a chance and try to see the good in each individual’s character. In turn, the farmer and his wife appreciate Buddy and his loyal protective boundaries.
Readers will definitely find themselves on an enjoyable ride as they join Buddy in his eventful journey filled with amazing discoveries and valuable lessons.
