Explorys’ big data analytics platform to help breakthrough orthopaedic physician-hospital organization (PHO) improve quality and standardize cost of care.

"We chose to work with Explorys because they have demonstrated quality data aggregation and reporting," said Daniel Murrey, M.D., M.P.P., CEO of OrthoCarolina, and chair of the NOSA quality committee.

Explorys, the leader in big data-driven healthcare transformation, today announced that the National Orthopaedic & Spine Alliance (NOSA) has selected the Explorys Platform and suite of cloud-based analytics solutions for its big data curation needs. Under the terms of the agreement, NOSA’s network will use the Explorys analytics platform to aggregate and analyze its founding members’ data to establish industry benchmarks for the delivery of orthopaedic and spine care nationwide.

NOSA was formed to create a new model of care for orthopaedic and spine care delivery through the development of uniform guidelines on appropriateness of care, common protocols and care paths, and consistent measurement of outcomes and cost. The alliance works on the foundation that the best way to reduce variability in both cost and quality of care is to not only capture the deepest set of data possible, but then to aggregate and analyze the data to uncover key trends and adjust processes accordingly. NOSA’s founding members include Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, OH; OrthoCarolina in Charlotte, NC; The CORE Institute in Phoenix, AZ, and Rothman Institute in Philadelphia, PA.

“We chose to work with Explorys because they have demonstrated quality data aggregation and reporting,” said Daniel Murrey, M.D., M.P.P., CEO of OrthoCarolina, and chair of the NOSA quality committee. “We want actionable information at the bedside that will be beneficial to our doctors and patients. Better data yields better outcomes.”

Explorys’ vendor agnostic, cloud-based platform allows NOSA members to continue using their current health information systems and is designed to aggregate and curate data effortlessly from multiple organizations. Explorys’ platform will also allow NOSA members to monitor and run reports on the status and measures of each individual affiliate, as well as make comparisons to the broader NOSA network.

“One of our primary goals at Explorys is to give organizations the tools they need to aggressively leverage big data to improve care quality, patient satisfaction, and reduce costs,” said Stephen McHale, CEO, Explorys. “We are honored that NOSA selected us as their big data partner, and we are excited to be able to provide this cutting-edge group with the analytics tools that will allow them to truly leverage the power of its Member network and continue to produce leading patient and cost-saving results in the orthopaedic world.”

Originally inspired by physicians and informatics leaders, Explorys, a Cleveland Clinic Innovations spinoff company, combines the most powerful healthcare computing platform in the world with turnkey solutions for clinical integration, at-risk population management, cost of care measurement, and pay-for-performance solutions. Explorys’ cloud-based platform is being used by 17 integrated healthcare systems, 300 hospitals, and over 200,000 providers to identify patterns in diseases, treatments, and outcomes.
