Facial Plastic Surgeon from New York to Climb Mt. Kilimanjaro for Children’s Charity
New York, NY (PRWEB) August 14, 2013 -- Dr. Andrew Jacono, a Board Certified Reconstructive and Facial Plastic Surgeon, and his son climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro on July 16th, 2013, to raise money for the medical treatment of underprivileged children born with cleft lips.
The THAI (Through Healing All Indigent) Children Missions Organization was founded in 2011 by Dr. Jacono’s son, Andrew Jacono, in an attempt to make a big impact on the world. Through generous philanthropy, children in third world countries are able to afford surgical procedures to address facial deformities, such as cleft lip, palate birth defects, and congenital hemangiomas that they otherwise would not be able to. All money raised through THAI Children goes strictly towards surgical supplies used during trips on which a team of surgeons will perform procedures that will restore the smiles of less fortunate children. No funds are used for travel expenses.
This summer, Dr. Jacono and Andrew Jacono will “Climb for a Cause” as they raise money for THAI Children by climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa’s tallest mountain. Both Dr. Jacono and his son, who is still in high school, are very passionate about humanitarian projects. They particularly wanted to help children with cleft lip and palate deformities, which can cause difficulty drinking, eating, speaking and breathing. Dr. Jacono and other facial plastic surgeons on the missions attempt to prevent children born this way from suffering a lifetime of discrimination. Their first mission was in February 2012 to Northeast Thailand where approximately 50 children received facial reconstructions. Another trip was made in late October to Santa Marta, Colombia. Individuals who are interested in donating to THAI Children Missions Organization can find information on how to do so at http://www.thaichildrenmissions.com/donations.
