Family First Intervention Founder Shares Personal Story for Recovery Month
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) September 15, 2015 -- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that the number of heroin-related overdoses have quadrupled in America over the past decade. The problem continues to get worse, and many families throughout the country feel hopeless in their search for answers.
This was the case with Mike Loverde and his family many years ago. Mike grew up in the Chicago area and has a degree in finance, but things went downhill after he became addicted to prescribed painkillers and eventually wound up injecting heroin.
"I tore my family to shreds," he recalls in a new video, which was released to coincide with National Recovery Month. In the video, Mike shares what it was like getting help and how much interventions help not just the addicted individuals, but the families as well.
"They took away my power," said Mike, referring to losing his ability to manipulate his family. He knew that their enabling had come to an end, and that they were no longer going to allow him to continue destroying his life or theirs.
Years later, not only has Loverde long since gotten his life back on track, but he has devoted himself to helping others in the same fashion. His company, Family First Intervention, is a beacon for families facing similar problems he’s had to deal with. This first digital release marks the first in a series of videos designed to help educate families more about addiction, enabling, intervention, treatment and recovery.
"Our hope is that people realize that addicts don't have to be left alone to hit bottom, and that there is real help available now," said Mike. "Arming people with information and tools helps to speed up the overall recovery process, for individuals as well as families and communities."
