Western Washington Medical Group’s Jennifer Okemah Will Ride In The JDRF Ride To Cure Diabetes
Everett, WA (PRWEB) July 24, 2013 -- In a recent blog post, Western Washington Medical Group announced that their director of Diabetes & Nutrition Education Center, Jennifer Okemah, MS, RD, CD, BC-ADM, CDE, will ride 100 miles to support the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s efforts to find the cure for Type 1 diabetes (T1D). The ride takes place from September 19-22 in Nashville, Tennessee. As a certified diabetes educator, Jennifer works with many people who have T1D. The post says that Jennifer is riding in honor of the patients and families she has served over the years who suffer from T1D.
Over three million American adults and children have T1D, and thousands more are diagnosed each year. T1D is a condition in which a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin. Those diagnosed with T1D have to inject insulin manually into their bodies. T1D is a very expensive condition, and the cure has yet to be discovered. Every year, thousands of cyclists ride in the JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes. The foundation has raised over $1.4 billion for research to find a cure for T1D.
