A contemporary Greek newspaper columnist struggles to find answers as he interviews politicians and the public about the cause of the current economic crisis in Faris Nejad’s new book, “The Curse of the Ancient Greeks” (published by AuthorHouse UK), a novel based on real stories and current events. It was first published in Greece in the Greek language.

The hero’s mundane exertion to stay afloat, keep his job as a journalist and hold his troubled family intact brings back memories of his mysterious birthplace and the glorious age of philosophy and logic in ancient Greece. This forces him to reevaluate his most intimate relations with his family and friends. He is then taken on a soul-searching and unexpected philosophical and romantic journey that provides him with some inspirational insight.

Through his fictional depiction, Nejad wants readers to learn that petty failures and economic difficulties can be utilized in a positive way to change them. “Ideology, philosophy and political (beliefs) are not useful on their own,” Nejad explains. “It is their practice that gives them value.”

Praise for “The Curse of the Ancient Greeks” by Kirkus Indie Reviews, which listed it as a “Best Book Recommendation”:
A sharp, witty, and often moving account of an ancient nation on life support.
