Sometimes, what to some may seem like a relatively unimportant decision – such as whether or not to wear a life jacket or to designate a sober boat driver – could be the difference between life and death.
Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) September 18, 2013
Phoenix personal injury lawyer Jeffery J. Hernandez said today that in the wake of Arizona’s sixth boating accident death of 2013, operators and passengers need to exercise caution while enjoying the state’s lakes and rivers.
According to CBS 5 (“Man killed after falling off boat at Roosevelt Lake,” August 20), a man was killed on a Saturday in mid-August after falling off a boat and being struck by the propeller.
“During the summer months, boating is one of the most popular recreational activities in Phoenix and across Arizona. However, as we’ve seen in this recent case, boating accidents can have tragic consequences,” said Hernandez, who represents victims of negligence and families who lost loved ones in accidents. “Steps must be taken by boaters to ensure not only their own safety, but also the well-being of any and all passengers.”
The CBS 5 news story said that the accident was Arizona’s 67th boating accident this year. Of these accidents, forty-two injuries and six deaths were reported, including the loss of an 8-year-old boy who fell off a pontoon boat while visiting Lake Havasu.
CBS 5 reported that the Arizona Game and Fish Department (AZFGD) offered a number of safety tips, such as riding away from the deck gate or rear bow, wearing a life jacket at all times, and choosing not to operate a boat while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
More information is available through the AZGFD’s boating safety website or by calling AZGFD directly at 623-236-7219.
“Boating accidents happen quickly. Sometimes, what to some may seem like a relatively unimportant decision – such as whether or not to wear a life jacket or to designate a sober boat driver – could be the difference between life and death,” said Hernandez, a personal injury attorney in Phoenix. “Victims of these serious boating accidents, when they occur due to somebody else’s negligent or careless behavior, could be entitled to compensation for their injuries.”
