El Paso Car Accident Lawyer Michael Gopin Discusses Pedestrian Fatalities In El Paso
El Paso, Texas (PRWEB) July 21, 2013 -- While pedestrian accidents are rare across El Paso County, personal injury attorney Michael Gopin said today it’s important for both pedestrians and drivers to exercise caution on roadways.
“It’s the duty of both pedestrians and drivers to responsibly share the road with one another,” said Gopin, who represents victims of negligence and families who lost loved ones in accidents. “Failure to do so could result in serious injury and can potentially have serious legal repercussions if a negligent party was at fault at the time of the accident.”
According to the El Paso Times (“55-year-old man killed in hit-in-run accident in Horizon City,” July 8), a pedestrian was struck while walking alongside Horizon Blvd. by a car traveling along the outside lane.
The El Paso Times story reports that the driver immediately fled the scene, with the pedestrian found lying on the roadway. He was transported to an area hospital where he later died, the newspaper reported.
Earlier this year, a former El Paso radio and television reporter was struck and killed in a similar accident. According to KVIA.com (“Former news anchor struck and killed while crossing street,” January 28), the news anchor was crossing the street when he was struck by a car.
Police reports said that the victim was not walking on a crosswalk at the time of the accident. Alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the crash, according to the story.
“Accidents involving pedestrians can have a wide variety of different causes, from distracted or drunk driving to speeding. As we’ve seen, tragically, the injuries sustained from these accidents can be fatal,” said Gopin, a car accident attorney in El Paso. “Injury victims who survive may be unable to work and may face other financial losses. Families who lose a loved one may face significant emotional and financial losses. Personal injury lawyers can help hold the negligent parties accountable so they victims can get justice. If you were injured as a result of somebody else’s negligence, you may have grounds to file a lawsuit against the negligent party, and you may be entitled to compensation.”
