Home Care Assistance – Toronto/York Region, a Leader in High-Quality In-Home Care, Weighs in on $31.5-Million Federal Funding for Dementia
Toronto, Canada (PRWEB) September 27, 2014 -- Home Care Assistance – Toronto/York Region (HomeCareAssistance-Toronto.com), the leading provider of non-medical, in-home senior care in the Greater Toronto Area, is weighing in on the federal government’s recent $31.5-million contribution for research into dementia and other neurodegenerative diseases.
The funds will go towards launching the Canadian Consortium on Neurodegeneration in Aging, with the goal of bringing together 340 expert researchers in the field to help combat the increasing occurrences of dementia and similar neurodegenerative diseases. Canadian Health Minister Rona Ambrose believes that there needs to be a focus on ways to support those who are caring for people with dementia and that the matter is urgent. That’s because, with the rate at which Canadians are being diagnosed with dementia, it could very well “overwhelm the system” if it isn’t approached aggressively right away. “This is such encouraging initiative from the federal government,” says Lester Fix, vice president of Home Care Assistance – Toronto/York Region. “Being part of the homecare industry for so many years, we know what an infusion of funds can do to further research and bring the medical community that much closer to preventing, treating, and curing dementia.”
The initiative will also be receiving an additional $24.0 million from the partners in the provinces of Quebec and Ontario, bringing the total contribution to this project to over $55.0 million. According to Fix, the research that comes from this group will be invaluable.
“Bringing together so many great minds to formulate strategies and find solutions has an impact all the way down the line,” he concludes. “We at Home Care Assistance – Toronto/York Region are hoping to inherit and implement some of the research that comes from this group into our in-home care practices with seniors within our community.”
