Personal Injury Law Firm Inkelaar Law Launches “Fight 4 Frida’s Law” Campaign Urging New Nebraska Bullying Laws on Change.Org.
OMAHA, NE (PRWEB) November 25, 2014 -- Inkelaar Law, a local personal injury law firm, is campaigning to strengthen anti-bullying laws in Nebraska through the “Fight 4 Frida’s Law,” a state-wide grass roots movement to petition state legislators. The firm has launched a Change.org petition in support of criminalizing bullying behavior and urges members of the Nebraska legislature and residents across the state to support the passage of new anti-bullying legislation called Frida’s Law.
“Bullying is a national epidemic affecting schools, students and families across the United States. We must act legally and decisively to curb bullying behavior,” said Thomas Inkelaar, founding partner at Inkelaar Law.
Inkelaar Law is working with senators in Nebraska to draft new anti-bullying legislation. The bill, dubbed “Frida’s Law,” seeks to criminalize bullying behavior that occurs off-school grounds and also seeks to hold accomplices responsible. Specifically, the bill provides for the option of a felony charge in violent cases, the classification of bullying offenses as crimes of violence, and a minimum sentence requiring counseling, victim impact awareness classes and community service.
The petition organizers at Inkelaar Law have set a goal of 100,000 signatures. Inkelaar Law encourages residents throughout the state to voice their support and join the “Fight 4 Frida’s Law.”
Inkelaar Law began representing the family of Frida Aguilera De la Torre after she was attacked by a group of students. De la Torre was only thirteen years old at the time of the bullying attack, which occurred during the spring of 2014.
“This is our chance to ensure that no other student suffers like Frida did,” said Inkelaar.
