In a series of firsts for the Gateway Retail Center currently under repositioning and redevelopment, Starbucks has signed a new long term lease to open its first and only Marin County store with a drive thru, announced Terrence Tallen, developer and principal, at the Gerrity Group,LLC, owners and re developers of the 20 year old shopping center.
“Our new Starbucks lease is the next exciting step in our redevelopment of the Gateway Retail Center and follows last month’s announcement by Target that the international retailer is opening its new flexible format, 49,000 square foot store in the Center in March 2017,” says Tallen. The new Target brings a robust grocery assortment to Southern Marin County, including healthy food options for the fill-in trip or weekly stock-up trip and better-for-you brands as part of a larger curated merchandise mix.
The Center’s existing Starbucks will move to the current Burger King location, expanding the store from 1,800 square feet to 2,889 square feet, making it one of the largest Starbucks in of Marin County. This new Starbucks is expected to open in the second quarter 2017.
“Our new Starbucks lease continues the progress we’re making to revitalize this community hub by structuring prototypical store formats for these international retailers in bustling southern Marin County,” said Mr. Tallen. “Currently the existing Starbucks is busy from opening to closing, evidencing the the need for a larger format store. The drive thru will be a wonderful convenience for this busy community as well as daily commuters and visitors alike who travel to and from San Francisco, Marin, Napa and Sonoma Counties.”
“By replacing Burger King with Starbucks, we have now opened up the burger category and we are working to attract popular fast casual burger chains and Bay Area favorites including Roam Artisan Burgers, Nation’s Giant Burgers, Bistro Burger, Barney’s Giant Burgers, as well as full service restaurants featuring gourmet burgers.”
The redevelopment strategy includes plans to attract in chef-inspired restaurants, a craft brewery, cutting edge and trend-setting restaurants and retailers, lush new landscaping, plazas for friends and families to gather, highly accessible parking and more.
