The article references one of the latest examples of success in real-time marketing, Oreo’sad campaign from last year’s Super Bowl XLX. The article says that moments after the infamous blackout, Oreo quickly tweeted and launched brilliant example of real-time marketing.

The tweet was mentioned over two million times on Twitter and since then, Internet marketing companies around the world have been trying to have their own “Oreo Moment.”

According to the article, real-time marketing is not usually as explosive as this single tweet, but rather a culmination of a brand’s day-to day activities, building an audience over time and being timely and relevant. Justin Maas, vice president of client relations at fishbat, says real-time marketing is definitely a growing trend for Internet marketing companies. “It’s a way for a brand to show that it is caught up on current events,” he says.“It also provides an easy way to connect with the audience better than a standard approach to targeting. If a brand stays up to date with current events through its social media presence, it will provoke fan engagements and posts have an increased possibility of going viral.

The article says the key to successful real-time marketing is to “identify the high level communities relevant to your brand”, monitor your social media presence closely and operate consistently with a tightly integrated team.

Maas says, “Without team work, real-time marketing cannot work. The brand needs to be constantly aware of what is going on in the world. The next step is effectively and creatively integrating the news into content, preferably in a way that makes people positively view the brand when they think of the event.”

Real-time marketing banks on discussion prompted by social media posts, Maas says. “If people are talking about a product, they will likely share it with their friends and hopefully, a simple post can boom into a major marketing success.”
