FLAVORx Names Inaugural Independent Pharmacy of the Year Award Winner
Columbia, Maryland (PRWEB) October 10, 2013 -- FLAVORx today announced Family Care Pharmacy of Jacksonville as the winner of the first FLAVORx Independent Pharmacy of the Year Award, along with six runner-up pharmacies. The seven finalists were chosen from a group of 50 candidates. The award, to be presented each October in conjunction with American Pharmacists Month, was established to honor independent pharmacies that exemplify great success with the FLAVORx program, a commitment to improving patient care, and a willingness to go above and beyond to develop their pharmacy business.

Family Care Pharmacy strives to help their pediatric patients adhere to their medication regimens. To do so, they encourage custom-flavoring for all bad-tasting children’s medications, offer the service for all other liquid medications, and suggest patients return for flavoring if they have difficulty taking the medication at home. The Family Care team has even gone so far as to create their own flavoring loyalty program. With the loyalty program, after a patient has five medications custom-flavored, they receive the sixth for free.
Family Care Pharmacy of Jacksonville employs several other strategies to promote the flavoring service to their customers. They use FLAVORx’s NewTaste hang tags, advertise the flavoring service in-store, and work with local prescribers to make them aware of the service and the benefit it can have on improving pediatric adherence. Family Care also offers custom-flavoring for over-the-counter (OTC) medications, as many children struggle with the taste of these drugs as well.
“Being next door to a pediatric clinic, we fill a large number of liquids. And parents are always looking for easier ways to get their children to take medication”, said Amy King, RPh, Pharmacy Manager at Family Care Pharmacy of Jacksonville. “We have seen with the increase in flavoring has come an increase in compliance. It also helps with the sale of OTC liquids since we inform patients that they too can be flavored.”
